The research shows the results of the educational and scientific expedition of the professors and students of the Technical University of Georgia carried out on June 5-12, 2014 in terms of determining the location of Khandzta Monastery built in the 8th century.
The opinion is put forward about the existence of two Khandzta monasteries - old and new - one of which was built in the 8th century (782) by Grigol Khandzteli, the other - in the first half of the 10th century (no later than 941) by Georgian Kuropalates (Byzantine title of some Georgian kings) Ashot Kukh and Gurgen. It is established that old Khandzta, due to the loss of the status of the ecclesiastical metropolis and thus its importance, lost its name with the passage of time and was called Nuka Cathedral.
On November 4, 2014, the author reported the results of the research presented in the book to Ilia II, His Holiness and Blessed Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia and Reverend Anania, Metropolitan of Manglisi and Tetritskaro.
