In the context of modern intensive urbanization, the study of the development and management of urban processes is becoming increasingly important for the economic and political life of countries. The new educational Doctoral Program - „Sustainable Urbanism“ was developed within the RETHINKe Tempus project by the Faculty of Architecture, Urban Planning and Design. The program relies on a special course of urban ecology, urban housing studies, etc. The importance of geographical information systems in urban science is presented in the program as well.The textbook is a set of articles and documents that reflect the current problems of urban development in the world and in Georgia in a whole, including methodological and conceptual approaches.The parts of the textbook were developed by:Part I. თანამედროვე ინტენსიური ურბანიზაციის ფონზე ქვეყნების ეკონომიკურ-პოლიტიკური განვითარების პროცესში სულ უფრო მნიშვნელოვანი ხდება ქალაქის განვითარების პროცესების შესწავლისა და მართვის საკითხების კვლევა. ევროკავშირის ტემპუსისპროექტ RETHINKe-ს ფარგლებში საქართველოს ტექნიკური უნივერსიტეტის არქიტექტურის, ურბანისტიკისა და დიზაინის ფაკულტეტზე დამუშავებული და წარმოდგენილი იქნა „მდგრადი ურბანისტიკის“ საგანმანათლებლო სადოქტორო პროგრამა, რომელიც მიზნად ისახავს ამ მიმართულებით მიმდინარე კვლევების თავმოყრას, გაძლიერებასა და ხელშეწყობას. წარმოდგენილი პროგრამის სპეციალური კურსი ეყრდნობა ქალაქგანვითარების ისეთ ძირითად საკითხებსა და კვლევებს, როგორიცაა ურბანული ეკოლოგია, ქალაქის საცხოვრისის განვითარების პრობლემები, გეოინფორმაციული სისტემები და სხვა. წარმოდგენილი სახელმძღვანელო არის ნაკრები იმ სტატიებისა და ნაშრომებისა, რომლებიც ასახავენ მსოფლიო გამოცდილებას ურბანული კვლევების მიმართულებით, წარმოადგენენ მიმდინარე პრობლემებს, ურბანულ გამოწვევებს საქართველოში, მოიცავენ მეთოდოლოგიური და დარგობრივი ანალიზის საკითხებს. პირველი ნაწილის „ურბანული ლანდშაფტის განვითარების წინამძღვრების“ ავტორი არის არქიტექტურის დოქტორი, სტუ-ის პროფესორი თენგიზ მახარაშვილი; მეორე ნაწილისა – „მასალა განსჯისთვის – საქართველოში საქალაქო საცხოვრისის რეფორმის კონცეფცია“ – არქიტექტურის დოქტორი, ურბანისტი, სტუ-ის პროფესორი ვლადიმერ ვარდოსანიძე, მესამე ნაწილის – „გეოინფორმაციული სისტემები და მათი კარტოგრაფიული საწყისები“ – გეოგრაფიულ მეცნიერებათა დოქტორი, სტუ-ის პროფესორი ზურაბ ლაოშვილი. სახელმძღვანელო შეადგინეს და დასაბეჭდად მოამზადეს არქიტექტურის დოქტორმა, სტუ-ის ასოცირებულმა პროფესორმა ნინო ჩაჩავამ და ეკონომიკის დოქტორმა, სტუ-ის პროფესორმა ნინო ფაილოძემ. სახელმძღვანელო განკუთვნილია არქიტექტურის, ურბანისტიკის, დიზაინის მიმართულების სტუდენტებისა და ასევე ურბანისტიკის თემით დაინტერესებული სპეციალისტებისათვის.
